MOQ tiers in 2026

The number you've heard quoted by Alibaba storefronts — "MOQ 100 pieces" — is almost never real. It's a lead-magnet number designed to get you into a sales conversation. The actual MOQ that produces a credibly priced quote from a real mill in 2026 is:

Indicative unit costs (FOB Ningbo, 2026)

Pricing varies dramatically with quantity, fabric spec and decoration. Below is what we typically see at the 1,000-piece order tier:

At 5,000 pieces, expect 15–25% lower. At 20,000+, expect 35% lower with stock-color fabric. These numbers exclude shipping (sea freight typically adds USD 0.30–0.80 / piece depending on destination).

Where mills cut corners (watch out)

The three places to push back when comparing quotes:

  1. Backing lamination method. Heat-bonded with a stabilizing scrim is the gold standard. Glue lamination is cheaper but peels after the first wash. Ask the spec sheet.
  2. Fleece GSM consistency. Some mills will quote 280 GSM, ship 240. Ask for a fabric weight test report on bulk delivery.
  3. Embroidery thread density. Cheaper embroidery uses fewer stitches per mm and looks loose. Ask for stitch-density spec.

Real budget benchmarks

If you're targeting a US retail price of USD 39–49 for a private-label picnic blanket, your landed cost (including shipping, duty, packaging) needs to be under USD 9. That maps to roughly USD 7.50 FOB Ningbo, which is achievable at 2,000+ piece quantity with PEVA backing and embroidered logo. For TPU backing, target retail USD 49–59.
